QUEENS, NEW YORK – A 45-year-old woman has died following a shooting incident in Queens on Sunday evening. The victim, identified as Chenille Ramsey, a Jamaican national residing in New York, was pronounced dead at the hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the head.
According to preliminary reports from the New York City Police Department (NYPD), emergency services responded to reports of gunfire in a residential area of Queens late Sunday. Upon arrival, officers found Ramsey critically injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities believe the shooting may have involved someone known personally to the victim. However, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made at this time. Police have not released further details regarding a possible motive.
“At this stage, the investigation is active and ongoing,” an NYPD spokesperson said. “We are exploring all leads and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Members of the local community expressed shock and sadness at the news. Ramsey was described as a friendly and respected member of the neighborhood, with strong ties to the Caribbean-American community in Queens.
The NYPD is currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area and conducting interviews with witnesses and acquaintances of the victim.
