A Jamaican national is assisting law enforcement authorities in Antigua and Barbuda following the seizure of a large quantity of marijuana during an anti-narcotics operation at VC Bird International Airport.
Police reported that the joint operation was carried out last Sunday by officers from the Narcotics Department, supported by members of the K-9 Unit and the Customs Enforcement Unit. During the coordinated exercise, lawmen intercepted two suitcases—one black and one green—containing a total of 19 sealed packages of cannabis.
Authorities say the drugs weighed approximately 60 pounds and have an estimated street value of EC$360,000.
Following the discovery, a 38-year-old Jamaican man was arrested and taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Police indicated that he is expected to be formally charged and brought before the court.
In a statement, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda reaffirmed its commitment to combating illegal drug trafficking and protecting the country’s borders from illicit activities.
