A 33-year-old Jamaican man, identified as Shamere Myrie, has tragically lost his life following a violent altercation in Gaylord, Michigan. Myrie, who is reported to be a firefighter employed by the Jamaica Fire Brigade, succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed during the incident on Monday afternoon.
According to reports, the altercation occurred around 3:00 p.m. at SunFrog Solutions, a t-shirt company in Gaylord. The Gaylord Police Department stated that upon arrival at the scene, officers found both Myrie and another Jamaican man with severe lacerations and puncture wounds inflicted by sharp-edged weapons.
The injured men were quickly transported to the hospital, where Myrie was pronounced dead from his injuries. The other man, whose identity has not yet been released, was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery.
Both men have been identified as temporary workers from Jamaica. It is understood that Myrie, who was on leave from his duties at the Jamaica Fire Brigade at the time of the incident, was working at the company during his stay in the United States.
The circumstances leading up to the altercation are still under investigation by local authorities. The news of Myrie’s death has sent shockwaves through the Jamaican firefighting community and has left friends and family mourning the untimely loss of a dedicated public servant.
