Kingston, Jamaica — The InDrive taxi operator who was taken into custody in connection with the disappearance of 20-year-old university student Anisa Dilworth has now been formally charged with murder.
Jamar Grant, 29, of Bull Bay, St. Andrew, was charged on Thursday with kidnapping and murder.
Grant has reportedly been in custody since May 10, just days after Dilworth was reported missing.
The charges come after skeletal remains found in the Fort Clarence area of South St. Catherine were confirmed last month to be those of Dilworth, who was a first-year pharmaceutical science student at the University of Technology (UTECH).
Anisa was reported missing on May 7, after allegedly boarding an InDrive taxi. A motorcar believed to have been used in the crime was later seized by investigators.
Dilworth, who hailed from Montego Bay, was known to regularly use ride-share services to travel around the Corporate Area while attending university.
However, ride-share company InDrive issued a statement noting that Dilworth’s last recorded trip using the app was in 2024, and that the accused driver’s account was created after that date, raising questions about whether the vehicle used was connected to the platform at all.
