INDECOM Probing Shooting Incident Involving Mentally Ill Man, Woman at Ewarton Police Station

St Catherine, Jamaica — The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into a shooting incident at the Ewarton Police Station on Thursday night, which left a man and a woman injured.

Reports indicate that around 7:57 p.m., a police officer was collecting a statement from an individual when a man, reportedly suffering from mental illness, entered the station armed with a machete.

The man allegedly attacked the officer, who responded by firing a single shot to defend himself. The bullet struck both the attacker and a woman who was in the reception area at the time.

Both injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions are not immediately known.

INDECOM is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the actions taken by the police officer.
