ICE Arrests Two Jamaican Nationals Convicted of Crimes in the US

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has announced the arrest of two Jamaican nationals convicted of criminal offenses in the US, including one who is also wanted in Jamaica for a serious crime.

ICE reported that on December 17, their Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) team apprehended 28-year-old Sanjay Sivan Walsh, who was convicted of sexually assaulting two children and tampering with evidence.

“Mr. Walsh committed unspeakable crimes against two children and was sentenced to prison for his actions,” said Patricia Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ERO Boston.

Hyde noted that while ICE had filed an immigration detainer to facilitate Walsh’s arrest upon release, the Connecticut Department of Corrections declined to honor it. As a result, ICE officers were forced to locate and arrest Walsh in the community.

On June 14, 2023, the Connecticut Superior Court convicted Walsh of two counts of second-degree sexual assault and conspiracy to tamper with evidence, sentencing him to 10 years in prison, with all but the one year and nine months he had served suspended. He was also required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.

In a separate operation, ICE confirmed the December 26 arrest of 30-year-old Jamaican national Leroy Neville White, also known as Kevin White. White is subject to an Interpol Red Notice for “shooting with intent” in Jamaica.

White had previously been convicted in the US of first-degree threatening with intent to terrorize and carrying a pistol without a permit. ICE officials highlighted that his immigration detainer was honored during his incarceration, allowing for a safe and controlled arrest at the correctional facility.

“White is wanted in Jamaica for a very serious crime, and his removal will ensure public safety both here and abroad,” Hyde stated.

ICE noted that White entered the US unlawfully on July 11, 2022, and an immigration judge had ordered his removal on April 12, 2023. Jamaican authorities issued an arrest warrant for White on August 11, 2023. He remains in ICE custody pending deportation to Jamaica.

Interpol’s Red Notices are used to alert member countries of internationally wanted fugitives, and ICE emphasized their commitment to ensuring such individuals are held accountable for their crimes.
