St Andrew, Jamaica: The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an inquiry into the fatal police shooting of 55-year-old Eric Shakespeare along Mountain View Avenue in St Andrew this morning.
According to INDECOM, reports indicate that a police team breached a room where Shakespeare was present. It is alleged that he was seen pointing a firearm at the officers, who then opened fire. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities reported that a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol was recovered from the scene. INDECOM officials examined the area, collected evidential material, and conducted a gunshot residue test on Shakespeare’s hands. The officers involved have been served with notices to provide statements and attend interviews as part of the investigation.
Following the shooting, angry residents mounted fiery roadblocks in protest, calling for justice and transparency in the case.
INDECOM is urging witnesses to come forward with any available photos, videos, or information regarding the incident. Reports can be made via WhatsApp at (876) 553-0000 or by contacting INDECOM at (876) 968-1932 or (876) 968-8875.
