St. Andrew, Jamaica – The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal police shooting of a 30-year-old man in Ambrook Lane, St. Andrew.
The deceased has been identified as Romario Hunter, also known as ‘Chicken’, a resident of the community.
According to preliminary reports, a police team entered a premises in Ambrook Lane around 5:50 a.m. on Monday when they were allegedly confronted by Hunter.
A confrontation ensued, resulting in Hunter being fatally shot.
Following the incident, police recovered a Glock pistol with a magazine containing four rounds of nine-millimetre cartridges from the scene.
Hunter was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
INDECOM has initiated an investigation into the incident, as is standard procedure in all cases involving the use of lethal force by law enforcement officers.
