Illegal Firearms , Uncustomed Cigarettes Seized in Operations Across Westmoreland and Kingston

Coordinated operations led by the Specialised Investigation Branch (SIB) this week resulted in the seizure of four prohibited weapons, assorted ammunition and a significant quantity of uncustomed goods across Westmoreland and the Corporate Area.

Reports are that about 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, a joint team from the National Strategic Anti-Gang Division carried out an operation at Shortcut Lane in Petersfield, Westmoreland. The team was supported by members of the Area 1 Fugitive Apprehension Team, the Canine Division and the Westmoreland Police Division.

During a search of an unoccupied structure on the premises, lawmen discovered a black rubber tube concealed at the rear of the property. A search of the container revealed one AK-47 assault rifle with two magazines, one Remington shotgun loaded with a 12-gauge round and two homemade firearms.

No arrests were made in relation to the seizure; however, investigations remain ongoing as forensic experts continue to process the recovered weapons.

In a separate operation about 11:00 a.m. on the same day, the Transnational Crime Investigation Division (TCID) conducted targeted raids at two business establishments within the Kingston Eastern Police Division.

The operation resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of uncustomed cigarettes and the arrest of two St. Andrew business owners.

They have been identified as 49-year-old Rujin Lin and 48-year-old Hongchun Yuan.

Lin has been charged with Possession of Uncustomed Goods, breaches of the Public Health (Tobacco Control) Regulations, Misleading and Deceptive Conduct under the Consumer Protection Act, and Bribery of a Public Servant after she allegedly attempted to bribe a member of the police team with cash in an effort to evade arrest.

Yuan has been charged with breaches of the Public Health (Tobacco Control) Regulations (2013), breaches of the Excise Duty Act and Possession of Uncustomed Goods.

Both are scheduled to appear before the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on Monday, April 13, 2026.

Investigations continue.
