St Mary, Jamaica — A 34-year-old minister of religion is among three men now facing charges following a robbery that occurred along the Golden Valley main road in Castleton, St Mary.
The accused minister, Alphonso Hinds of Olympic Way in St Andrew, has been charged with robbery with aggravation, conspiracy to commit robbery, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony.
Also charged in the case are 27-year-old Jermaine Small, otherwise called “Natty,” who faces a charge of receiving stolen property, and 70-year-old Dudley Williams, also known as “Dudus,” who has been charged with larceny by finding.
According to reports from the Annotto Bay police, the incident took place about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 7. Three individuals were travelling in a white Toyota Axio motor car along the Golden Valley roadway when the vehicle reportedly developed mechanical issues and came to a halt.
The occupants exited the car while the driver opened the bonnet to examine the engine. During that time, a gunman approached the group, reportedly pulled a firearm, and robbed them of several items.
Stolen in the incident were a white iPhone 16, a Samsung Note Ultra mobile phone, cash totaling $1,050,000, and various personal documents. The assailant then fled the location on foot.
Police said that during the early stages of the investigation, Hinds was initially treated as a complainant in the matter. However, further inquiries allegedly revealed that he had orchestrated the robbery.
Later the same day, between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., members of the St Mary Operational Support Team (OST), working alongside the St Andrew North OST, carried out a joint operation along Golden Spring Road in Stony Hill, St Andrew.
During the operation, Small and Williams were reportedly found with the stolen items and were taken into custody.
Both men were subsequently charged following question-and-answer sessions conducted in the presence of their attorneys.
Police say court dates for the three accused men are currently being finalised.
