Kingston, Jamaica – Walter Brady, former Mayor of Port Maria and prominent figure in St. Mary, has died at the age of 88. The announcement was made on Friday by Robert Montague, Chairman of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), of which Brady was a long-standing member.
“We ask for your prayers and consideration during this difficult time for members of Mr. Brady’s family,” Montague stated, expressing condolences on behalf of the JLP.
Brady’s extensive public service included serving as the councillor for the Hampstead division and Chairman of the St. Mary Parish Council from 1981 to 1982. He also contested the Central St. Mary seat for the JLP in the 1980 general elections.
Prior to his political career, Brady held various professions, including teacher, salesman, and life underwriter. He later transitioned into agriculture, becoming a successful farmer and a leading producer of bananas and winter vegetables in St. Mary. He was a graduate of the Jamaica School of Agriculture.
Robert Montague, Member of Parliament for St. Mary Western, highlighted Brady’s significant contributions to the parish’s agricultural sector.
Walter Brady is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma, and their three children: Michelle, Michael, and Dwight. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
