St Andrew, Jamaica — Police have arrested a 23-year-old man and seized an illegal firearm during an operation on Tarrant Drive, near Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, on Tuesday morning.
The suspect, identified as Fabian Thomas, otherwise called “Messi,” of Upper Oxford Street in west Kingston, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
According to police reports, around 10:10 a.m., officers from the St Andrew Central Police Division were conducting an operation in the area when they observed Thomas walking along the road and acting in a suspicious manner. He was accosted and searched.
A black and silver Sturm Ruger 9mm pistol, along with a magazine containing thirteen 9mm cartridges, was reportedly found inside a black duffle bag he was carrying.
Thomas was taken into custody and later processed at the Half-Way Tree Police Station. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
