Ride-Share Driver Arrested in Connection with Missing UTech Student Anisa Dilworth

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Police have arrested a driver from a popular ride-sharing service in connection with the disappearance of 20-year-old Anisa Dilworth, a pharmaceutical technology student at the University of Technology (UTech), who has been missing since May 6.

Senior Superintendent Mark Harris of the St Andrew Central Police Division confirmed the arrest on Saturday, stating that the man is currently in police custody and is being questioned. However, no charges have yet been laid.

“We have a man in custody, we have a car, and we are pursuing another person [who] we believe can assist us with the investigation,” Harris told The STAR. He did not disclose any further information about the second individual but noted that authorities are utilizing technology, including support from JamaicaEye and other agencies, to aid the ongoing probe.

Anisa Dilworth, originally from Montego Bay, St James, had recently completed her first year at UTech. Her father, Everton Dilworth, shared that Anisa was still adjusting to life in Kingston and often relied on ride-sharing services to travel around the city.

“We are devastated, we are still in disbelief, everybody is taking it very hard,” the grieving father said, adding that the family has been struggling to cope with her sudden disappearance.

Despite the emotional toll, Mr. Dilworth commended the police for their efforts, acknowledging the limitations they face. “It’s a little bit on the slow side maybe because of what they have to work with regarding technology, manpower, and stuff like that, but you can see they are genuinely putting some effort into it. Who is dealing straight with the case, they are trying,” he said.

The investigation into Anisa Dilworth’s disappearance remains active, with police urging anyone with information to come forward.
