The Whithorne police in Westmoreland have commenced an investigation into the shooting deaths of a husband and wife, followed by the burning of their home in Content district, Westmoreland, on Tuesday.
The victims have been identified as 36-year-old Kirk Hall, otherwise called ‘Ken,’ a farmer, and his wife, 57-year-old Merlene Dailey-Hall, a food vendor, both of Content district in Westmoreland.
Reports are that shortly after 3:00 a.m., residents in the community raised the alarm after hearing a barrage of gunshots coming from the direction of the family’s home.
Residents further stated that minutes later, they saw the house on fire and a group of heavily armed men fleeing from the yard.
The police and fire department were summoned to the scene, and upon the arrival of the firefighters, they discovered the house was already engulfed in flames, leaving them only able to perform cooling down operations.
A search was carried out through the burnt rubble, and the charred remains of Hall and his wife were discovered.
The scene was processed, and the remains were removed to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
No motive has yet been established surrounding this latest double murder.
