Portland, Jamaica – The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that the main road from Buff Bay to White Hall in Portland is currently impassable due to heavy rains affecting the parish.
The roadway is blocked in the Craigmill community, where the nearby river is in spate. The area, which has relied on a high Ford for access since the closure of a nearby bridge several years ago, is now completely cut off.
Stephen Shaw, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, also confirmed that other parts of the parish have been significantly affected by the inclement weather. Landslides are disrupting traffic along the main road from Ecclesdown to Muirton, and rock falls have been reported between Williamsfield and Haining.
Efforts are underway to restore access. Shaw noted that contractors have been mobilised and clearance of the affected corridors is expected before the end of the afternoon, weather permitting.
He is urging residents, especially those in flood-prone and landslide-affected areas, to exercise extreme caution as the rains persist.
