Tokyo Olympics 110m hurdles champion Hansle Parchment is among six Jamaican athletes who have joined Grand Slam Track, a new professional track and field league founded by former American Olympic champion Michael Johnson.
The league is set to debut in Kingston, with its first meet scheduled for April 4-6 at the National Stadium.
Grand Slam Track announced the names of the competitors yesterday. Parchment will be joined by fellow sprint hurdler Orlando Bennett and 400m hurdles specialist Malik James-King. On the women’s side, the Jamaican representatives include World 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams, 400m hurdles finalist for the Paris Olympic Games Shiann Salmon, and World Under-20 100m champion Alana Reid, who was also a member of Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team that reached the final at the Paris Olympics last year.
These six athletes will join four other Jamaicans already invited to the series, bringing the total to ten. The previously announced competitors include 400m hurdler Roshawn Clarke, 100m sprinter Oblique Seville, 100m sprint hurdler Ackera Nugent, and 400m specialist Nickisha Pryce.
