An Alabama woman who accused rap moguls Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of raping her when she was 13 has withdrawn her civil lawsuit against both men, according to court filings submitted on Friday.
The unidentified woman initially filed her lawsuit against Combs in Manhattan federal court and later added Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, in December. She alleged that she was assaulted by the two men in 2000 after Combs’ limo driver offered her a ride to an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
However, the court document filed by her attorneys did not provide a reason for the voluntary dismissal.
Jay-Z, who had strongly denied the allegations and sought to be removed from the lawsuit, called the withdrawal “a victory” and dismissed the claims as a “fictional tale.”
“The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed,” he said in a statement on social media. “This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere.”
Meanwhile, Combs remains in custody in New York, facing federal sex trafficking charges. He is also the subject of multiple sexual assault lawsuits, many filed by the plaintiff’s attorney, Tony Buzbee. The Texas lawyer has stated that his firm represents more than 150 individuals, both men and women, who claim they were sexually abused or exploited by Combs.
Combs’ legal team responded to the lawsuit’s dismissal by asserting that it confirms the lack of credibility in the other cases against him.
“For months, we have seen case after case filed by individuals hiding behind anonymity, pushed forward by an attorney more focused on media headlines than legal merit,” his lawyers said in a statement. “Just like this claim, the others will fall apart because there is no truth to them. Sean Combs has never sexually assaulted or trafficked anyone—man or woman, adult or minor.”
As the legal battles continue, the dismissal of this lawsuit marks a significant turn in the high-profile cases surrounding the music mogul.
