Grammy-nominated rapper Mystikal has admitted guilt in a rape case stemming from an incident at his Louisiana residence nearly four years ago, according to court documents.
The 55-year-old artist, born Michael Lawrence Tyler, entered a guilty plea to third-degree rape on Tuesday during proceedings in Ascension Parish. The development comes after he had been in custody since 2022 in connection with allegations that he assaulted a woman at his Prairieville home, located outside Baton Rouge.
Authorities reported that the case involved claims of both rape and physical assault. Since his arrest, Tyler has remained behind bars at the Ascension Parish Jail without bond.
His legal representative has not issued a public statement following the plea.
Under Louisiana law, Tyler now faces a potential prison term of up to 25 years, with no eligibility for parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Sentencing is scheduled for June 15.
Mystikal gained prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s, earning multiple Grammy nominations during the peak of his career. His hit single “Shake Ya A**” received a nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2000.
The rapper has previously served time for a separate sexual offense. In 2003, he pleaded guilty to sexual battery and was sentenced to six years in prison. That same year, he secured Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album for Tarantula and Best Male Rap Solo Performance for “Bouncin’ Back (Bumpin’ Me Against the Wall).”
