Government Provides 100,000 Chicks to Farmers Affected by Hurricane Melissa

The Government has distributed close to 100,000 baby chicks to farmers in communities badly affected by Hurricane Melissa last October as part of ongoing recovery efforts.

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Floyd Green, said 312 farmers also received building materials to help rebuild damaged chicken coops.

Speaking at the Comeback Coops initiative in Parottee, St Elizabeth, Green noted that the programme will now move into a second phase involving partnerships with the private sector and NGOs.

He also praised Hi-Pro for supporting farmers and providing veterinary assistance in several hard-hit communities.

Beneficiaries at the event received chicks, feed and materials to restart poultry production.
