Kingston, Jamaica – Great news for students across the island! Starting September 2025, all students will be able to ride free of cost on Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses and vehicles operating under the National Rural School Bus Programme.
The initiative, which runs until the end of October 2025, was confirmed by Hon. Daryl Vaz, Minister of Science, Energy, Telecommunications & Transport.
According to Minister Vaz, the programme will cover learners from early childhood right up to tertiary level. To take advantage of the benefit, students must either present a valid school ID or be dressed in their school uniform when boarding.
The Ministry says the move is aimed at easing transportation costs for families as schools fully reopen for the academic year, while encouraging punctuality and attendance.
Parents, guardians, and students are encouraged to make use of the opportunity and comply with the identification requirements to ensure smooth boarding on the buses.
