Utah, USA – Shockwaves rippled across the political world Wednesday night as prominent conservative activist Charlie Kirk, 31, was gunned down while addressing students at Utah Valley University.
Reports are that Kirk, founder of the youth organization Turning Point USA, was midway through his “Prove Me Wrong” campus tour when shots rang out. Eyewitnesses say the fire came from outside the venue, striking him in the neck. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement has since launched a massive manhunt after recovering what they believe to be the shooter’s rifle in nearby woods. Investigators are treating the killing as a targeted political assassination.
Kirk rose to national attention in his teens for championing conservative values on college campuses. He later became an influential commentator, author, and host of The Charlie Kirk Show, earning a dedicated following among young voters.
Tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders condemning violence and calling for calm. Former President Donald Trump announced that Kirk will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Condolences continue to flow to Charlie Kirk’s relatives, colleagues, and supporters as they mourn the untimely loss of one of America’s most visible conservative voices.
