Kingston, Jamaica — The Court of Appeal has dismissed the bid of former policeman Craig Williams to overturn his convictions for rape, forcible abduction, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Williams, who was convicted in 2021 in the Gun Court, had challenged both the verdict and the sentences imposed. However, the appellate court ruled that the evidence presented at trial was sufficient and upheld the original findings.
He had been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for rape, five years for abduction, and 12 years for the firearm offence. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently, resulting in a maximum term of 15 years. He is required to serve at least 10 years before becoming eligible for parole, and his name was ordered placed on the Sex Offenders Registry.
In rejecting the appeal, the court found no basis to disturb the trial judge’s decision, effectively affirming both the conviction and sentence.
The ruling means Williams will continue serving the sentence imposed in November 2021.
