Flash Flood Watch Extended — Heavy Rains Lash Jamaica’s South and Northwest

Kingston, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) — The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has extended the flash flood watch for several parishes as unstable weather conditions continue to soak the island.

The alert now remains in effect until 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The parishes under watch include St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Westmoreland, Hanover, St Elizabeth, and St James — all areas known to be low-lying and flood-prone.

Heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms have been pounding sections of the island since the weekend, leaving roads flooded and drains overflowing in some communities.

The Met Service is urging residents, particularly those living near rivers, gullies, and in flood-prone areas, to stay alert and be ready to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.

Motorists are being reminded to exercise extreme caution when driving through waterlogged roads, as even shallow floodwaters can be dangerous.

With rains expected to continue into Tuesday morning, citizens are advised to keep monitoring weather updates through official channels and to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.

As the wet weather system lingers, emergency teams are said to be on standby, and residents are being encouraged to report any signs of flooding or landslides to the relevant authorities.

Mckoy’s News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they develop.
