ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Five people died and 15 others were hospitalised Wednesday after a public passenger bus crashed on the PJ Patterson Highway.
The minibus, reportedly travelling from Mandeville to Kingston, hit a guardrail and flipped multiple times, with several passengers reportedly ejected. Among the dead were three males and two females, and the injured included a two-year-old child.
Authorities say a tyre reportedly blew out, though investigations are ongoing. Police, firefighters, and emergency medical teams responded, transporting victims to Spanish Town Hospital, where the hospital’s emergency plan was activated.
Road safety advocate Dr Lucien Jones urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, use seatbelts, and ensure vehicle safety.
