KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Ministry of Education says 845 schools have reopened as of November 26, 2025, following Hurricane Melissa.
In Region 4 (Westmoreland, St James, Hanover), 24 of 25 high schools are now open for Grades 11–13, allowing exam-level students to return to face-to-face classes.
The ministry has 48 contractors working on repairs, prioritising schools with dormitories, including Munro College, Hampton School, and St Elizabeth Technical High School.
UNICEF has provided temporary tents to support schools while permanent repairs continue, with the first installed at Darliston Primary. Minister Dana Morris Dixon said all rebuilding will follow enhanced, climate-resilient standards
