Music executive Ferdy Unger-Hamilton has dismissed recent reports that Grammy-winning reggae artist Koffee was dropped by RCA Records, calling the claims unfounded.
“Koffee is, and has always been, signed with Promised Land Records. Promised Land’s deal with Sony ended over two years ago, and we [Promised Land] are now distributed through Virgin,” Unger-Hamilton clarified in a recent interview.
Speculation about Koffee’s status with RCA spread rapidly online, but Unger-Hamilton explained that she was never directly signed to the label. Instead, Promised Land Records previously had a distribution deal with Sony-affiliated RCA and Columbia, which ended years ago.
Koffee’s two major releases—her 2019 Rapture EP and her 2022 full-length album Gifted—were both released through Promised Land Records, the label owned by Unger-Hamilton.
A veteran of the music industry, Unger-Hamilton stepped down as Columbia UK president in late 2022 after a successful six-year run, during which he worked with artists such as Robbie Williams, Rag’n’Bone Man, and George Ezra. Prior to that, he led Polydor Records, overseeing the careers of Ellie Goulding, Lana Del Rey, and The 1975.
As for what’s next for Koffee, Unger-Hamilton simply teased: “New music is coming very soon.”
Born Mikayla Victoria Simpson in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, Koffee made history in 2020 as the youngest and only female artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Now 25, she continues to build her legacy, with fans eagerly awaiting her next musical chapter.
