Female Shop Operator Shot Dead, Five Men Shot and Injured in Green Island

Jamaica News, April 13, 2018 – Female Shop Operator Shot Dead

Hanover, Jamaica (Mckoy’s News) – Five men were shot and injured, and a female shop operator shot and killed as gunmen opened fire on a crowd in Green Island , Hanover on Thursday night, April 12.




The police have given the name of the deceased female shop operator as 39-year-old Rhonda Smith, otherwise called “Suzette” of Salt Spring also in Green Island, Hanover.

Reports by the Green Island police are that shortly after 10: 30 p.m. on Thursday, Smith who operates a bar and shop at a section of Salt Spring in Green Island known as Wire Bridge had just close up business for the day. The five male victims who are all customers to the female decided to accompany her to her gate which is in close proximity to her place of business.

On reaching a section of the roadway, two men armed with handguns ambushed them and opened fire hitting all six persons to their bodies.  The wounded men ran into bushes but Smith was cornered by the gunmen who shot her several more times.

The gunmen escaped in the area on a motorcycle while the police were summoned and upon arrival, Smith and the other wounded men were transported to the Noel Holmes hospital where she was pronounced dead and the men admitted in serious condition.
