A 30-year-old man was shot and killed on Wednesday afternoon near the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) after reportedly taking his children for medical attention.
Dead is Damion ‘Danger’ Henry, who was attacked shortly after 4 p.m. while entering an informal parking lot at the intersection of Princess and North streets. Reports indicate that gunmen, believed to have been waiting inside the area, opened fire on the vehicle he was driving.
Henry sustained gunshot wounds to the head and upper body and later died. His cousin, who was also in the car, was injured and remained in surgery up to press time.
Family members said Henry had gone to the location out of concern for his children’s health, noting that they were not present during the shooting.
The incident caused panic in the busy hospital zone, with bystanders attempting to assist the victims before emergency responders arrived. Police later secured the scene and detained several individuals as part of ongoing investigations.
Residents have long raised concerns about criminal activity and alleged extortion linked to the parking area, which has been the site of repeated violence.
The Kingston Western police are continuing their probe into the fatal shooting.
