A Georgia woman, Torii Fedrick, has been convicted of fatally poisoning her husband, Phil Fedrick, and will spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole. The verdict was announced following a two-year investigation conducted by the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).
According to a March 27 news release from the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office, a jury found Fedrick guilty of multiple charges, including malice murder, felony murder, and aggravated assault. The judge subsequently sentenced her to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
The incident dates back to September 2021, when Phil Fedrick was admitted to Archbold Memorial Hospital. Medical staff suspected poisoning early on, and their swift decision to initiate proper testing proved pivotal. The victim succumbed to his condition approximately one week after hospitalization.
Investigators eventually determined that Torii Fedrick had poisoned her husband with ethylene glycol, a toxic chemical commonly found in antifreeze and brake fluid. The investigation, spanning two years, meticulously gathered evidence leading to her conviction.
In their statement, the sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of the hospital staff’s “quick assessments and requesting of proper testing” as being “crucial in the case being discovered.” The collaborative effort between the medical team, local law enforcement, and the GBI ultimately brought the case to a close.
Fedrick’s conviction serves as a sobering reminder of the meticulous work required to bring justice in complex poisoning cases. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the crime.
