A security guard accused of aiding a late-night warehouse robbery has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
R Livingston, who faces charges of warehouse breaking, larceny, and receiving stolen property, was reportedly on duty at a business premises when a vehicle was allowed entry around 11:00 p.m. According to the prosecution, the vehicle’s occupants subsequently stole various items from the warehouse.
CCTV footage allegedly captured Livingston on duty during the robbery, leading to his detention. However, Livingston’s attorney argued that another female security guard, who was also on duty that night, permitted the vehicle’s entry while Livingston was occupied with other tasks. The attorney further claimed that the footage was of poor quality and inconclusive.
The prosecution acknowledged the existence of another guard but stated that she could not be located for questioning. Despite the defence’s argument, presiding Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell questioned why Livingston had previously declined to provide an explanation to the police, opting only to say “no comment” during repeated questioning.
Judge Burrell also noted that Livingston’s defence emerged only after his court appearance, raising doubts about its credibility. Additional footage presented in court allegedly showed Livingston himself opening the gate to permit the robbers entry.
As a result, Judge Burrell refused to entertain a bail application during the session, remanding Livingston in custody until the investigation progresses further. The court is expected to revisit the matter at a future date.
