Las Vegas, NV – March 27, 2025 – A 41-year-old babysitter has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly fatally stabbing a 3-year-old girl while her father was at work, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).
The tragic incident occurred early Wednesday morning. Police responded to a 911 call from the child’s father at approximately 3:36 a.m., reporting that his daughter had been stabbed by her babysitter.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the young victim suffering from apparent stab wounds inside an apartment. Despite efforts to save her life, the child was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, authorities confirmed.
The father informed police that the babysitter had fled the scene on foot. Officers conducted a search of the area and located the suspect, identified as Marketta Phillips, near the scene. She was taken into custody and later booked into the Clark County Detention Center, charged with open murder with a deadly weapon.
Phillips had been babysitting the victim while the father was at work. Police said she allegedly stabbed the child before fleeing the area as the father returned home.
“This is an isolated incident. It’s just a very tragic and unfortunate incident,” said LVMPD Homicide Lieutenant Robert Price during a press conference on Wednesday.
Phillips is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Thursday, according to inmate records.
