Jamaican-American singer and rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, have been found guilty on multiple fraud charges in a Florida court, according to reports emerging from the United States. The verdict, delivered on Friday, saw both Kingston, 35, and Turner, 61, convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud.
The charges stem from accusations that the pair orchestrated scams targeting banks and businesses, defrauding them of significant sums of money through fraudulent purchases of furniture and jewellery.
Kingston, best known for his hit song “Beautiful Girls,” was arrested in California in May of last year. His arrest came shortly after law enforcement raided his rental home in Florida, during which his mother, Janice Turner, was also apprehended. Kingston was subsequently extradited to Florida to face the charges.
Following the guilty verdict, the rapper has been placed under house arrest pending his sentencing. His mother, Janice Turner, has been remanded into federal custody.
The pair are scheduled to return to the Florida courthouse on July 11 for their sentencing hearing, where they will learn their fate following the conviction on these serious fraud charges.
This development follows previous reporting on the case, including the raid on Kingston’s home and his mother’s initial arrest. The legal proceedings have drawn significant attention, given Kingston’s public profile as a successful musician. The conviction marks a significant turn in the legal saga that began with their arrests last year.
