Father and 3-Year-Old Daughter Die in Clarendon Highway Crash — Day Before Her Birthday
Clarendon, Jamaica — Tragedy struck along the May Pen to Williamsfield leg of Highway 2000 in Toll Gate, Clarendon on Monday afternoon when a crash claimed the lives of a father and his three-year-old daughter — just one day before her birthday.
Reports are that about 2:00 p.m., 29-year-old Luchion Bennett was driving a BMW X6 SUV with his daughter, Lushana Bennett, and a female companion when the vehicle reportedly suffered a tyre blowout.
The driver reportedly lost control, and the SUV veered off the road, smashed through a fence, and rolled multiple times before coming to rest in bushes some distance from the highway.
All three occupants were thrown from the vehicle.
The father and little girl died on the spot, while the woman was rushed to hospital in serious condition.
Fence Damage and Safety Concerns
At least 15 fence poles were damaged in the crash, raising concerns about cattle wandering onto the highway and endangering motorists. A highway worker on the scene confirmed that repairs to the fence are expected to begin Tuesday and urged drivers to observe the speed limits for their safety.
