Electricity Restored to Roaring River NWC Pump After Major JPS Repairs

Electricity supply has been fully restored to the National Water Commission’s Roaring River pumping facility, bringing relief to thousands of residents across Westmoreland who depend on the system.

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) confirmed on Friday that power was successfully returned to the pump late Wednesday night, following testing to verify that the lines were safely energised. The restored infrastructure is also supplying electricity to several surrounding communities, including Petersfield, Waterworks and Shrewsbury Falls.

According to JPS, the restoration effort required extensive reconstruction work, with more than 10 miles of power lines rebuilt between the Paradise Substation and the Roaring River facility. Over 100 linesmen were deployed as part of the operation to complete the repairs.

The update comes amid ongoing recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa. Earlier this week, Energy Minister Daryl Vaz reported that approximately 51,000 JPS customers remained without electricity islandwide, although most of the hardest-hit areas in western Jamaica had seen significant progress.

In Westmoreland alone, Vaz said more than 17,000 of the parish’s 34,000 customers were still without power at that time. He also confirmed on Friday that electricity had since been restored to Darliston, as restoration efforts continue across the parish.
