An elderly security guard was arrested and charged after he was found in possession of an illegal firearm in Negril, Westmoreland, on Monday.
He has been identified as 60-year-old Norbert Clarke, otherwise called ‘Norbert,’ of Campbelton Gardens in Petersfield, Westmoreland.
Reports are that around 1:00 am, the Negril police received information that a man was seen in possession of a firearm in the vicinity of Norman Manley Boulevard.
A team of officers went to the area where Clarke was spotted, and he identified himself as an armed security officer.
A search was conducted, and the officers found him with a shoulder holster containing a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, fitted with a magazine containing six live 9mm rounds.
Checks revealed that the firearm was unlicensed, resulting in Clarke being charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon and Unauthorized Possession of Ammunition.
