Kingston, Jamaica: The education community is in mourning following the passing of La-Toya Clarke, the esteemed principal of Allman Town Primary School in St Andrew. Clarke, a beloved educator and leader, passed away on August 10 after a brief illness. She was widely respected for her dedication to education and her transformative impact on the school she led.
La-Toya Clarke was more than just a principal; she was a passionate advocate for education and a vibrant force within the community. Known for her optimism and zest for life, Clarke was in the process of pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Education at William Howard Taft University in Denver, Colorado, USA. Her commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence earned her praise as a consummate professional.
Tributes and condolences have poured in from various quarters, reflecting the widespread respect and admiration she garnered throughout her career. The Hampton Old Girls’ Association, the Optimist International Caribbean District, Mico University College—where Clarke served as a part-time lecturer—and her colleagues and students at Allman Town Primary School have all expressed deep sorrow at her passing.
In honor of her memory, a candlelight vigil will be held on the grounds of Allman Town Primary School on Monday at 6:00 p.m. This event will offer students, staff, and community members an opportunity to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a leader who touched so many lives.
The celebration of Clarke’s life is scheduled for September 7, 2024, in Kingston, at a church to be announced. Following the service, interment will take place at Mountainside in St. Elizabeth, where her family and friends will lay her to rest.
