KINGSTON, Jamaica — Director of Public Prosecutions Claudette Thompson has appealed to Jamaicans to play a more active role in supporting the country’s justice system, citing challenges that continue to affect court proceedings.
Thompson made the call on Wednesday while addressing the opening of the Hilary term at the Home Circuit Court. She noted that reluctance among citizens to participate in court matters often leads to delays and disruptions in hearings.
According to the DPP, the Hilary term, which runs from January to March, will see a heavy caseload before the court. She reported that 887 case files are currently listed for the term.
Thompson further explained that murder cases account for the majority of matters scheduled to be heard at the Home Circuit Court during this period. She emphasized the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the efficient administration of justice.
