Roseau, Dominica — The Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority (DASPA) has confirmed ongoing rescue efforts for a missing Cessna 172 aircraft that departed the Douglas Charles Airport on Sunday afternoon en route to Martinique.
According to a statement from DASPA, the four-seater single-engine aircraft lost communications at approximately 3:46 pm local time. Local and French emergency response teams are collaborating to locate the missing plane.
“Rescue efforts are in progress, and we confirm that the safety of the passenger and crew is paramount at this time. Further updates on the situation will be provided once they become available,” DASPA assured in its release.
Details surrounding the exact number of people on board or the nationality of the pilot remain unclear. The Cessna 172, known as the most-produced aircraft in history and widely used for flight training, has not yet been located.
Eyewitness reports suggest that the plane may have crashed between Riviere Cyrique and La Plaine on Dominica’s southeast coast. One resident said, “That plane has an engine problem, and it fell down between Riviere Cyrique and La Plaine. Circle around there, they might get the plane there.”
Authorities are yet to confirm these claims as the search continues. More updates are expected as rescue teams scour the area for signs of the missing aircraft.
