A tragic traffic collision along the Crawford to Font Hill main road on Saturday claimed the lives of three children and one adult, police have confirmed.
The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Jeneen Dawkins, 10-year-old Antwasia Ledgister, a 17-year-old known as Ashley, and a 12-year-old girl whose identity has not yet been released.
According to the police report, the fatal incident occurred about 5:27 p.m. and involved a 2011 black Toyota Voxy and a 2013 white Freightliner M2 160 truck. Dawkins was driving the Toyota with the three children travelling as passengers, while the truck was operated by a Canadian utility worker.
Investigators said the two vehicles were heading in opposite directions when the Toyota, travelling at a high speed, failed to remain on the left side of the roadway and entered the path of the oncoming truck. The resulting impact caused severe damage to the Toyota.
Emergency responders removed the occupants from the wrecked vehicle, but Dawkins and the three girls were later pronounced dead at hospital.
Police investigations into the crash are continuing.
