LAS VEGAS (TCN) — A 41-year-old man is in custody after allegedly following his ex-wife and her new partner, fatally shooting the latter and injuring his estranged spouse.
On January 3, at approximately 4:44 p.m., Adrian Rodriguez-Guillen contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, admitting to shooting a woman near Blanton and Sacks drives. Responding officers found two vehicles stopped in the middle of the street and two women suffering from gunshot wounds.
One victim, identified as 40-year-old Adriana Herrera, succumbed to gunshot injuries to her head and body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other woman, Rodriguez-Guillen’s ex-wife, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Rodriguez-Guillen and his ex-wife were married in 2001 and divorced in 2013 after 24 years together, during which they had seven children. Despite their separation, they reportedly had an on-and-off relationship until two months ago when his ex-wife ended things permanently.
Herrera and Rodriguez-Guillen’s ex-wife, who worked together at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, began their relationship approximately 18 months ago. Sources indicate Rodriguez-Guillen reacted poorly to the breakup and the new relationship, allegedly issuing threats, including that he would “kill them and send them to hell.”
On the day of the incident, the ex-wife went to pick up Herrera. Rodriguez-Guillen allegedly hid his vehicle to avoid detection and then blocked their car as they attempted to drive away. The women managed to reverse and escape momentarily, but he pursued them, cutting them off again before exiting his vehicle and opening fire.
Investigators believe Rodriguez-Guillen did not intend to harm his ex-wife, despite her injuries.
Rodriguez-Guillen faces multiple charges, including:
- Open murder with the use of a deadly weapon
- Attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon
- First-degree kidnapping resulting in severe bodily harm
- First-degree kidnapping with use of a deadly weapon
- Burglary while in possession of a firearm
- Eight counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle
A Clark County judge has denied him bail.
The violent incident has left the community shocked, particularly given the premeditated nature of the crime. Authorities continue to investigate the case as Rodriguez-Guillen awaits trial.
