The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has announced the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Richard Stewart as the new head of its Crime and Security Portfolio, effective Monday. He will succeed recently retired DCP Fitz Bailey in overseeing one of the JCF’s most demanding and critical departments.
The Crime and Security Portfolio covers essential areas such as crime prevention, investigations, and public safety, making it one of the most challenging roles within the force. DCP Stewart, with over 30 years of service, is recognized for his leadership, innovation, and transformative impact within the JCF.
Throughout his distinguished career, DCP Stewart has been instrumental in modernizing the force’s administrative functions, including revamping training programs at the National Police College of Jamaica and helping the JCF secure ISO 9001 certification. His efforts in reshaping police training have garnered international recognition, positioning the JCF as a leader in law enforcement education.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Stewart holds degrees in both law and accounting. His reputation for strategic leadership and operational command comes at a crucial time as Jamaica continues to confront significant crime challenges. The JCF anticipates that his experience will further strengthen ongoing efforts to improve public safety across the nation.
