Former national champion Rohan Watson secured his first 100m final win of the season at the Grand Prix Lombardia Brescia 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event, on Sunday. Watson, who was a semi-finalist at the World Athletics Championships, clocked 10.48 seconds, overcoming a challenging -2.8 m/s headwind. He edged out compatriot Michael Campbell, who finished second in 10.53 seconds, and Cuba’s Janns Fernandez, who took third with 10.54 seconds.
Watson had only one previous win this season, in the 100m heat at the Miramar Invitational in April.
In other events, Jamaica’s Natasha Morrison took third in the women’s 100m with a time of 11.43 seconds, behind Marie Josee Ta Lou-Smith of Ivory Coast (11.28 seconds) and Great Britain’s Daryll Neita (11.31 seconds). Meanwhile, Stephenie-Ann McPherson finished fourth in the women’s 400m, clocking 51.93 seconds. The event was won by American Alexis Holmes with 51.32 seconds, followed by Brittany Brown (51.48 seconds) and Romania’s Andrea Miklos (51.65 seconds).
In the women’s 100m hurdles, Yanique Thompson also placed fourth, running 13.44 seconds (-1.6 m/s). Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho Quinn won the event with 12.88 seconds, followed by American Masai Russell in 12.91 seconds and Italy’s Giada Carmassi in 13.42 seconds.
Additionally, Lamara Distin placed fifth in the women’s high jump with a leap of 1.82m.
