Criminal Charges Laid Against Teenager Held with Illegal Gun in Adelphi, St James

Jamaica Crime News, St James: A 19-year-old teenage boy whose identity the police has given as, Netovaughn Roshaun Downer, has now been officially charged with Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition after he was reportedly caught in possession of an illegal firearm in the community of Canaan, Adelphi on Thursday night.

Reports by the Adelphi police are that about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, a team of officers were on Patrol duties in Caanan District when they saw came upon a group of men outside a shop.

On seeing the police approaching,  Downer reportedly started to act in a suspicious manner and then ran from the group to the rear of a shop. The lawmen gave chase and saw him removing an object from his waistband and throwing it on the ground.

Downer was held and the object which was retrieved was found to be a Taurus 9 mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with Fourteen live 9mm rounds.

The firearm was seized and Downer was transported to the Freeport lockup where he was subsequently charged.
