READING, St James — The parish of St James was rocked by tragedy late Saturday night after gunmen unleashed a deadly attack on a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Lottery Scamming Task Force and his family.
The officer, whose identity has not yet been released, was reportedly travelling with his spouse and young son in the Reading area when armed thugs opened fire on their vehicle, riddling it with bullets.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, both the officer’s wife and child have succumbed to their injuries.
The lawman was rushed to hospital and is now undergoing emergency surgery. At this time, his condition remains unknown, as doctors work around the clock to save his life.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released, as police are still processing the scene and notifying relatives.
This latest incident comes as the JCF continues its battle against lottery scamming and organized crime in western Jamaica — a fight that has seen increased threats to law enforcement.
Police investigators are now combing the area for clues, and a major probe has been launched into what appears to be a deadly ambush.
