Cop Mowed Down During Traffic Stop in May Pen

A traffic stop in May Pen, Clarendon, escalated on Wednesday afternoon after a taxi operator reportedly drove into a police officer, leaving the officer injured and the driver in custody.

Police sources say the incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Church Street, where a team of officers was conducting a routine traffic stop. The officer signalled a taxi to pull over, but as he exited the vehicle to halt the driver, the cab allegedly struck him.

The injured officer was immediately transported to hospital and is currently receiving medical treatment. Authorities have not released any information on his condition.

Following the incident, the taxi operator was arrested and taken into custody. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
