Police in Clarendon have opened a homicide investigation following the death of a man after a disturbing sequence of events in May Pen early Friday morning.
The deceased, known only by the alias “George Pang,” is believed to have been suffering from mental illness.
According to police reports, Pang was allegedly attacked by another man, who is also suspected to be mentally ill, and was struck with a piece of a concrete block.
Investigators say Pang attempted to flee the assault and made his way onto Manchester Avenue, where he reportedly crawled onto the roadway. He was subsequently run over by a motor vehicle. The driver involved is said to have left the scene without stopping.
At approximately 5:50 a.m., residents discovered the man lying motionless in a pool of blood and alerted the police.
Responding officers observed that the deceased had sustained severe head injuries, with significant trauma to the left side of his head, as well as an open wound to one foot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
