A separate senior-level probe has been launched after two unauthorized packages of cocaine were uncovered inside storage areas operated by the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigations Branch (C-TOC), authorities confirmed this week.
The development comes as law enforcement continues to examine the arrest and charging of Police Inspector Martin Walker in connection with the seizure of 5.8 kilograms of cocaine on January 8. The latest discovery has widened the scope of internal scrutiny within the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
The illegal substances were detected during a full audit of C-TOC storage facilities ordered by Deputy Commissioner of Police Richard Stewart, who oversees the Crime and Security Portfolio. Preliminary findings indicate that the drugs were being stored in violation of established procedures.
Following the discovery, investigators from the Firearm and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) were promptly engaged to lead the inquiry into the breach.
In response, Commissioner of Police Dr. Kevin Blake has directed that FNID be immediately removed from the administrative oversight of C-TOC. The JCF High Command has also formally pledged its support to FNID as the investigations proceed.
Both the internal audit and the criminal investigation remain active.
