Jamaican cricket icon Chris Gayle has expanded his role in the sport, becoming co-owner of the Glasgow Mugafians franchise ahead of the launch of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL).
The former West Indies cricket team star has partnered with Mugafi Group in the Scotland-based franchise, marking a new business move for the self-styled “Universe Boss” as the tournament prepares for its inaugural staging.
Gayle’s involvement follows reports that an investment group led by Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin, previously linked to the Glasgow team, is now expected to shift focus to the Dublin franchise.
Speaking on the development, Gayle described the ownership role as an exciting new phase, pointing to Europe as a major growth market for cricket. He said the ETPL could help uncover emerging talent in the region while contributing to the sport’s long-term development.
Franchise rights in the new competition have reportedly been sold at US$15 million over a 10-year period, underscoring significant investment in the league’s foundation.
The inaugural ETPL season is scheduled to run from August 26 to September 20, with organizers positioning the tournament as a major addition to the expanding global T20 landscape.
