Traffic Chaos Coming! Charlton Avenue to Shut Down for 5 Weeks Starting Saturday
By McKoy’s News Staff | July 24, 2025 | Kingston, Jamaica
Motorists beware! The National Works Agency (NWA) has issued a stern warning: Charlton Avenue in Kingston will be completely closed off to regular traffic for five full weeks starting Saturday, July 26.
👷♂️ The closure comes as part of a major road rehabilitation project valued at J$7.5 million, and let’s just say—it’s going to mash up more than just the pavement!
⚠️ What You Need to Know:
- Full closure for five weeks
- Only residents and business operators will be allowed single-lane access
- Work includes concrete pavement, kerb and channel, and hot-mix patching
- Total rehab to stretch over three months
The NWA is urging all motorists to avoid the area completely and use alternative routes. Flagmen will be on-site, and proper signage will be posted—but expect delays, detours, and driver frustration.
“It’s necessary work—but people need to prepare,” said NWA spokesperson Stephen Shaw.
One commuter told McKoy’s News:
“Mi pass pon Charlton every day. This a go slow mi up bad! Mi haffi leave earlier now.”
Another taxi operator called it “madness in the making” if detour signs aren’t clear from Day One.
Charlton Avenue is about to become a no-go zone for the next few weeks. If you live, work, or pass through that area—plan ahead or prepare for traffic hell.
