Kingston, Jamaica – The National Works Agency (NWA) is advising motorists that Central Avenue in St. Andrew will be closed for 10 hours on Saturday and Sunday to facilitate critical drainage improvement works.
The closure will run from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.
Central Avenue is a major link between Constant Spring Road and West Avenue, and also provides access to The Queen’s High School.
According to Stephen Shaw, Manager of Communication and Customer Services at the NWA, the project is aimed at reducing the frequent flooding problems that plague the roadway after heavy rains. The works are expected to continue on the weekend of October 4 and 5.
During the closure period, no vehicular traffic will be allowed from Constant Spring Road onto Central Avenue. However, residents will be able to access their property via West Avenue.
The NWA is urging motorists to exercise caution, obey the instructions of flagmen, and pay attention to all posted warning signs.
